- Las Vegas Strip Attack
- We owe countless citizens, police officers, EMT’s
Iam terribly saddened and heartbroken over the recent senseless tragedy that has befallen our city. I have been in utter and absolute shock over the devastating events and horrors that the world witnessed this past October 1st during a country music festival. Upon learning of what transpired on the Las Vegas Strip that evening, I ensured to stay awake throughout the night. As I told a friend, how can anyone who cares for their community possibly sleep comfortably while their city was under attack? I for one could not. Not knowing details, reasons, or explanations for why such an abhorrent act took place, kept replaying in my mind. I kept asking myself and family, why? The constant worry and irreversible harm that was committed against our citizenry kept me awake for over 35 hours after the shooting attack. What we witnessed that Sunday night and Monday morning, was most certainly evil of the highest order. The senseless murder of 59 people and the injuring of over 500, tore a hole in my heart. My heart still weeps. It has not been an easy task to recover from such an event. In spite of what took place, the city of Las Vegas, and Clark County have proven themselves to be a strong community united against the front of evil of a few. I was uplifted by the immediate response and assistance provided by members of our community. No better example than the initiative taken up by Clark County Commissioner Steve Sisolak who created a fundraising campaign that quickly exceeded 8 million dollars. This past week, we have witnessed the polar opposites of what mankind may offer. On the one hand, evil in its most pure form, and on the other, the most passionate, strong, kind, and humanitarian efforts put forth by average local residents. The outpouring of love and support was nothing short of amazing. I am confident that regardless of what despicable acts takes place, it cannot and will never overcome the love and care that millions more can exert. For those lost, we will never forget them. We owe countless citizens, police officers, EMT’s, and fire and rescue who became immediate heroes that night. We must acknowledge and commend them for risking their own lives for total strangers. I am forever proud of our city, its people, and its courage in helping those who need help. This event has in many ways restored our faith in humanity. Our true colors of awe inspiring actions and assistance during those times of great tribulation, has given our community a new face of strength. My friends, we will endure. We will never let the enemy win. For we will not be deterred. We will live on and we will survive. For we are Battle Born. We are #Vegasstrong. For now, we pray for us, those living, and for those who’ve passed. We pray for our city today, so that we may be more united tomorrow.
