LONDON, March 24 (UPI) —Sophie Turner hopes Sansa Stark will join the list of Game of Thrones casualties.
The 20-year-old English actress discussed her character’s future on the HBO series in an interview with WSJ Cafe ahead of the show’s Season 6 premiere.
“Season 6 feels like everything is kind of coming together, [with] storylines intertwining and people are forming alliances with other characters and everyone is kind of coming toward the same goal,” Turner revealed.
“This season is about [Sansa] taking charge and being a leader, rather than just a pawn in someone else’s game,” she added. “This is a big season for her. She’s really going to thrive this season.”
Turner confirmed Sansa survives her jump with Reek (Alfie Allen) in the Season 5 finale, but said she hopes her character eventually dies. The series is known for killing off major characters, including Sansa’s dad, Ned Stark (Sean Bean).
“Game of Thrones never disappoints. There are huge shocks this season,” the actress said. “I don’t want to survive … I think if you’re on Game of Thrones and you don’t have a cool death scene, then what’s the point?”
Turner has played Sansa since the series premiere in 2011 and has seen the character through a controversial rape scene with Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon). She previously sansa” target=”_blank”>told Entertainment Weekly the new season will be “a really, really big one” for Sansa.
“It’s probably her best season yet,” she shared. “It’s her really coming into her own. She, this season, really commands the respect that she deserves and she grabs hold of it and she runs with it and it’s really good.”
Game of Thrones will return April 24. Lena Headey, who portrays Cersei Lannister, also previewed an “interesting season” for her character, telling Entertainment Weekly Cersei’s relationship with Jaime will hit “an all-time weird level.”
